10th UKSSC AGM - 11 August 2007
The 10th Annual General Meeting of the United Kingdom Singapore Students' Council was successfully concluded on 11 August 2007 at the Suntec City Convention Centre.
In his address to the meeting, outgoing President Benjamin Lee, reflected on a year of change and consolidation for the UKSSC, and highlighted that despite the substantial progress that has been achieved over the past 12 months, more needed to be done to create a truly vibrant and dynamic community amongst the 5,000-strong Singapore student population in the UK. He also unveiled two new initiatives introduced by the UKSSC, the Makan Card (which was particularly well-received amongst the incoming first-year students) and the revamped ukssc.org web portal, featuring interactive features such as a forum and marketplace. He urged all university Singapore Student Associations (SSA) to support the new UKSSC programs, and stressed the need to build a stronger support network that would extend beyond individual university campuses, and across the entire United Kingdom.
Following the President's report, outgoing Secretary Leow Lay May presented the financial report on behalf of the Treasurer. The accounts reflected a healthy profit achieved over the financial year 2006-07, and provides the incoming committee with a stable financial footing on which to further take the UKSSC forward.
Once the formalities had been concluded, the meeting proceeded to elect the 11th Executive Committee of the UKSSC. David Liew from the London School of Economics was elected as the new President, and the following persons were elected as committee members: Nicholas Foo (Warwick), Joe-Han Ho (Durham), Chew Jialing (UCL), Ian Cheng (LSE), Tan Liang Sheng (Southampton) and Zhong You Jia (Edinburgh). Benjamin Lee (UCL) and Leow Lay May (Cambridge) will serve as Advisors to the 11th Executive Committee.
